Privacy Policy

U-Chat is made by Mchinnovation ("we"). This policy explains what happens to your data when you use the U-Chat app and the U-Chat relay.

What stays on your device

Your messages, files, contacts (paired devices) and keys are stored only on your own devices, encrypted. Your device's identity key never leaves it. If you delete the app or use Safety wipe, this data is gone.

What the relay sees

When you chat over the internet, your device connects to our relay (relay.mchinnovation.com). The relay:

• sees a random device ID (a public key your device created) and the IDs of the devices it sends to;
• sees your IP address while connected (needed to deliver traffic; not stored in logs we keep);
• passes on sealed, end-to-end encrypted messages that it cannot open;
• holds a sealed message only while the recipient is offline, deletes it as soon as it is delivered, and after 7 days at the latest;
• stores, if you allow notifications, your device's push token so it can ask Apple to show "New message". The notification never contains the sender or the content.

Nearby mode

When devices are close together they can talk directly over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Nothing passes through our servers in this mode.

Third parties

Apple delivers push notifications (Apple Push Notification service) and receives only the push token and the fixed text "New message". We use no other third-party services in the app.

Children

U-Chat is not directed at children under 13.

Your choices

You can turn notifications off in iOS Settings, delete conversations or wipe them with Safety wipe, and delete the app at any time. Because we hold no account or personal profile, there is nothing for us to export or delete beyond the temporary relay data described above; contact us if you want your device ID removed from the relay.
