Getting started
- Install U-Chat on both devices.
- Tap the QR icon. Scan the other person's QR code (or paste their pairing token), and let them scan yours.
- Check that the fingerprints on both screens match, then start chatting.
Common questions
Do I need an account or phone number?
No. Each device creates its own keys. You add people by pairing in person.
Why does a chat say "Away"?
The other device is offline or the app is closed. Your message waits, sealed, in the relay mailbox and is delivered when they come back (for up to 7 days).
Can it work without internet?
Yes. Devices near each other connect directly over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
What do notifications show?
Only "New message". U-Chat never shows who sent it or what it says on the lock screen.
I got a new phone. Can I move my chats?
For privacy, keys never leave a device. Install U-Chat on the new phone and pair again with your contacts.
How do I erase a conversation?
Open it and tap the red bin (Safety wipe). It is erased from this device immediately.
